Congratulations to Ryan Estates Homeowners Association for making tremendous strides in promoting good governance within its community.
History After the January, 2003 Annual Meeting, the Board identified the need to enhance communication between itself, the management company, and the owners. The CC&Rs, the Bylaws, and other documents were in serious need of revision. Venues for information were not being fully utilized.
Efforts In January 2004, the Board dedicated itself to clarifying the community's documents, creating a more transparent governing process, and improving communications via their newsletter, task force involvement, and website enhancements. Meetings were open to all owners and all of the activities handled by the Board were reported in their newsletter and on the community's website. The owner's Task Force reviewed the CC&Rs and Bylaws for revisions and amendments. The amended Bylaws were approved in August of 2004 and the amended CC&Rs were approved in December of 2004. The Association also created a Landscape Policy, Collection Policy, and Payment Application Policy.
Resolution The January, 2005 Annual Meeting (jokingly referred to as the Annual Beating) revealed that these concerted efforts to involve everyone, to listen, consider, and communicate decisions, and to implement needed changes, were fruitful. The owners applauded the work done by the Board, the management company, and the community manager assigned to their neighborhood.
